Apple Cider Moscow Mules

You can find apples in just about anything this time of year. They’re in season here in Ontario, so it’s the perfect excuse to use them in baking, cooking and even in cocktails. This Moscow Mule is a prime example of how you can use apples to make a delicious cocktail for those cool fall evenings.

Aside from the obvious flavour of apple, this cocktail includes notes of ginger beer, lemon and a hint of cinnamon. The flavours combine beautifully for a crisp refreshing drink with a comforting fall aroma. They look quite nice in a classic copper Moscow Mule cup with a garnish of thin apple slices and a cinnamon stick. If you don’t have the mugs, don’t worry though – a simple cocktail glass would do just fine.

To top it all off, this cocktail is beyond easy to make, so you can be sipping fall flavours in no time at all.

Serves 1

2 ounces vodka – if you can find ginger flavoured, use that!
2 ounces apple cider (store bought or homemade)
Juice of 1 small lemon wedge
Good quality ginger beer to top off (about 1/2 cup or so)
Cinnamon to sprinkle
Cinnamon sticks & apples slices for garnish

In a copper mug, add the vodka, apple cider and lemon juice.

Fill the glass with ice, sprinkle cinnamon over the ice, then top off with ginger beer.

Stir well and garnish with an apple slice and cinnamon stick.

Enjoy!

You can use any type of apples for garnish – but we recommend something that is more tart such as a granny smith. For a sweeter version, try a honeycrisp or even a macintosh apple. The possibilities are endless so find one that you like best!
