There’s no denying that a cookie is one of the ultimate comfort foods. Fresh baked at home is always a tasty option, but our round up definitely gives mom or dad a run for their money. This week, we’re focusing in on the best cookies in King West. If we’ve recently helped you to buy or rent in the area, then this one is for you!
For the Classic Cookie Lover – Portland Variety
On the corner of King and Portland, this restaurant/cafe is in a prime King West location. They offer the usual cafe fare, but the best item on the menu is the chocolate chip cookie. It’s everything you want a chocolate chip cookie to be – chocolaty, buttery, soft and chewy. They’re a pretty decent size too, so the edges are slightly crispy, while the centre is ever so slightly under baked. If you’re looking for a classic chocolate chip cookie fix, then this is definitely the spot for you. A single cookie from Portland Variety will run you about $3.25. Connect with them on Facebook here.
For the Nut Cookie Lover- Forno Cultura
If you’re someone who loves to have a little treat now and then, but opts for something that’s full of nuts, then Forno Cultura is for you. This Italian bakery just west of King and Portland is our go-to destination for authentic Italian treats. Their bakery offers a huge selection of products from breads to sandwiches to cookies and panna cotta. Everything is amazing, so we tried a couple cookies, but the real star of the show is their Pistachio Amaretti Cookie. It’s got big pistachio flavour, which is complemented by lots of lemon zest and a light dusting of icing sugar. The cookie is amazingly chewy, and perfectly sized for an afternoon treat! You pay by the gram at Forno Cultura, but this Pistachio gem runs about $1.50. For more info, visit their website here.
For the Not-Too-Sweet Cookie Lover – Bar Buca
Bar Buca serves amazing Italian fare, and their cookies are no disappointment. They have a few different cookies to choose from, but we went with a classic – biscotti. They’re the perfect cookie for those of us who don’t like things too sweet. There were two biscotti flavours to choose from, but we went with the hazelnut, pistachio and chocolate flavour. The cookie was the perfect more crisp texture of classic biscotti. The chocolate was semi sweet, so it added some flavour without being too overpowering, and the hazelnuts added the perfect amount of nutty flavour and crunch. We would definitely go back to Bar Buca anytime we had a mid afternoon cookie craving! For more info, visit their website here.
For the Decadent Cookie Lover – Colette Grand Cafe
Colette is one of the most gorgeous places in the neighbourhood. A beautiful French inspired interior houses delicious pastries, coffees and lunch fare. We were drawn to Colette to sample their salted chocolate cookie – and it did not disappoint. Imagine the classic chocolate chip cookie – but with a more decadent twist. Semi sweet chocolate chips are replaced by creamy milk chocolate and a light dusting of sea salt adorns the top of the cookie – it’s the perfect complement to the rich dough. It’s well worth it to spend the $3.96 on a cookie just to sit in the gorgeous space. To see all that Colette has to offer, check out their website.
For the Ultimate Chocolate Lover – Soma Chocolatier
Soma is the best place in King West to cure your chocolate cookie cravings. They specialize in chocolates, but there are tons of other chocolate treats available for purchase in the store. Soma is a little different than the other places on this list in that the cookies are pre-packaged. They have a number of different cookies to choose from, but we went with their chocolate hazelnut cookies with a dark chocolate centre. The cookies are good and chocolatey with a hint of hazelnut and a dark chocolate centre. They come in a pack of 3 for $6.78, but they’re pretty decadent, so consider sharing! More information can be found on their website.
We loved sampling cookies from around King West to write this post. Now we’d love to hear from you! Let us know if you’ve tried any cookies on our list, or if there are any places that deserve to be added.
